Definition of FMGE:

Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) is a licensure examination administered by the National Board of Examinations (NBE). Individuals who hold Indian citizenship or Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) status and have completed their primary medical qualifications from institutions outside India must successfully clear this examination to register with the National Medical Commission (NMC) or the State Medical Council (SMC) and practice medicine in India. It should be noted that candidates who completed their primary degree course on or before March 15, 2002, are exempt from appearing for the FMGE. Furthermore, it is important to understand that the FMGE is not an entrance test and does not serve as a means of admission to any institution. Rather, it is a licensure examination specifically designed for foreign medical graduates. The FMGE is conducted biannually, with sessions taking place in December and June. If a candidate is unsuccessful in clearing the December session, they have the opportunity to attempt the examination in the subsequent June session.
