Veterinary Science
Veterinary Science is a branch of science that deals with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases in animals, both domesticated and wild. It is a field that requires a deep understanding of the physiology of animals and a love for working with them. Veterinary medicine is an important profession that covers all types of animals, from pets to livestock to wildlife.
What is B.V.Sc.?
B.V.Sc. (Bachelor of Veterinary Science) is an undergraduate program in veterinary medicine that prepares students to become veterinarians. The program covers a wide range of subjects, including Veterinary Biochemistry, Veterinary Pharmacology & Toxicology, Veterinary Anatomy & Histology, Veterinary Physiology, Veterinary Parasitology, and more. Students learn how to diagnose, treat, and prevent diseases in animals, as well as how to perform surgeries and provide medication and vaccination advice.
Duration and Eligibility for B.V.Sc.
The duration of the B.V.Sc. program is 5 years, which includes Animal Husbandry and an internship. Without Animal Husbandry, the program lasts for 3 years. To be eligible for the program, candidates must have passed 10+2 or an equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English with a minimum of 50% marks secured from a recognized board in India. The average fee for the program varies depending on the institute and can range from INR 7,000 to INR 22,000.
Who Should Pursue B.V.Sc.?
People who have a genuine love and compassion for animals and who are skilled enough to understand their problems should consider pursuing B.V.Sc. Animals cannot express their pain and problems in words, so veterinarians must rely on their observational and analytical skills to diagnose and treat them.
Admission Process and Entrance Exams for B.V.Sc.
Admission to the B.V.Sc. program is based on the marks obtained in the entrance examination conducted by the concerned universities. The All India Pre-Veterinary Test (AIPVT) is an All India Common Entrance Examination conducted by the State Veterinary Council of India to fill up 15% of the total number of seats in each Veterinary college in India.
